Happiest 4th of July in History

Well- the Caleeforneyyeah Kelson Clan had a Fantabulous time at the Frio this past 4th...witnessed the flood...floated on the fastest tube ride in history with my lovely wife, Kristy, and no shotgun was pulled out or Deer run over this year (tube trip took 25 minutes...hang on Erica and Blakely)...saw the FIREWORK show of the Century (thanks Shelby Boys and Mule...Disneyland was jealous of the SHOW)...Ate like a champ...Re-established myself as the FRIO CHAMP of Disc Golf (2nd place ain't bad uncle Kev)!...Drove the boys around in the ATV...Hung by the healing waters of the Frio and witnessed my youngest, Lil Sean, get baptised in those cooling waters...Saw my oldest, Ryan, take his first float trip and bust a tube on one of the rapids...Sang the songs of yore to the TRIO guitar band (Big E, Karl and Kev)...
but the Kicker of it all was to see FAMILY! We are truly blessed to have a fantastic family. Thanks to all..and especially Grandma and Earl...you both are truly the greatest folks on the Frio.
See you next year. Love Carey and Kristy

Kevy J. Kelson

Kev! Are we on vacation or what? I don't have that many time anchored commitments in my average workday. Physical activity? Holy Toleduh! Here's my itinerary...1) Wake up; 2) Be coherent sometime within the next three hours; 3) Take 2 advils and 3 tums: 4) Three finger riser breakfast since Rob is cookin'; 5) Scratch; 6) Play guitar maybe. That's pretty much it unless we're golfin' or swimmin'! I heard you were all a hard bunch. Oh well, I'll try to hang! Kev, Karl and I are taking set list suggestions for the concert(s). Anybody need me to bring an extra axe to grind on? Happy to bring my Epiphone, when you're not playin' it you can use it as a canoe paddle. E of a Capital Nature

The Masters @ ConCan

One week until the ultimate hill country showdown at Con Can. Sir Kels the reigning and defending senior champion, Doug the up and comer who swings from the wrong side, Uncle Mike the all american Arkansas razorback super senior, Big E the loner from out of nowhere, and the favorite Bobby Loyd who will be position A all day baby. Hey Sir Kels I got the box my man. Hopefully CP can join us for the Friday rematch at concan if the Kremlin will let him out to play with the big boys. I am in for golf both days.We will be arriving sometime late Tuesday. It looks like we will be in a tent as getting the starcraft up and running with this 2 month hurricane over us is a problem. I am working on an emergancy fitness program to get me in shape.Boy I can not wait to a nice sunrise, a full three finger Texas breakfast with a Titleist pearl driven to position A.

The Mule is gonna DOMINATE

Uncle Kev and all you Right handed fools - Doug "the Mule" "Lefty" Mueller is down for golf Thursday...prepare to cry on Grandma's shoulder about the new family member coming to Leakey and owning the concan golf course. Also - Grandma - Erin/Doug/Heisman are coming in late July 2- leaving July 6 Can't wait to see everyone! Love, The Muellers

Big E's (and Little E's!) updated itinerary

Howdy All, Brother Mike - I will gladly retract my (crooked, oft broken) pinkie from the air in which in occasionaly resides and go to war on the fields of Con-Can with the Man Mountain of SWC football lore. Remember, I too was the object of considerable ridicule at the hands of the merciless "Wild Bunch" when playing ball in that godforsaken land of liberality, Austin, TX. Although it seems so, not EVERYONE in the whole daggum world attended TU, and those of us who remember the glory days of the long-gone SWC from other quarters must live on as a reminder that SOMEONE out there in the real world isn't wearing BURNT ORANGE undergarments. (I love this stuff...hehehe) VICTORY will be ours!!! I respectfully request, General Kelson, that we recruit your cranky younger brother, the one with no hair and an old guitar, to fight on the side of all that is good and right in the world. (Ours, of course). UPDATE - Young Ryan Evans (8 years old) will make his third trip to the Frio! (Kevin, please post the pic of Ryan and Kyle at Garner, in the river with Baldy in the background!) Hopefully there will be extra room in the boys tent, and there definitely will be room in mine for my boy. We will bring the bucket of wiffle balls, his bat bag stuff, fishin' pole, etc. Ryan is really fired up. For him to pry himself loose from his favorite cousins that will be in town then is a real testament to the wonder the Frio holds for him. Schedule wise, we plan to arrive Tuesday 7/3 mid afternoon, leave Sunday 7/8 early. Once again, please let me know anything I can do / bring / etc., food or otherwise. Later!! E

Grandma and Earl

We, The Kelson Clan from the land of Disney, would like to remind the king and queen of the Frio that we shall arrive on Tuesday July 3rd. We look forward to Food, Folks, and Fun....just like...but better than... McDonald's. OUT! Carey

Texas Family Vacation

The river is running and Earl said he has a couple of tractor tires available for Big Mike. Big E talked eloquently of his right to be at the Frio, I agree, but he can not take the interloper title from me. I earned it. Well, I am older for one thing and always felt at home in the hill country of outlaws and rebels. Even the Texas Rangers thought twice of walking up to a cabin in the Camp Wood and Leakey escarpment, and at night. Definitely armed with double barrel shotguns. I hope that Kristi does not have to use the restroom on the float trip. She is a veteran.... also from another part of the country, and has the bug for bluebonnets and three national grand champion trees of Baer County. To think I get to see the passing of the torch to the next generation of University of Texas graduate tykes. I am all choked up, I can hardly contain myself. I can not wait to see the young men that have blessed me with the playful exuberance of youth and curiosity. And what can you say about Kevin. I can remember when Carey and Karl were doing backward high dives from eighty foot trees at the Frio. Playing miniature golf, climbing old baldy, paddle wheeling, horse shoes, washers etc. And the only ones to beat me were Earl the Pearl. Why ......because Earl is from Arkansas...but I digress. Thank you Mom and Earl for the invite to your paradise location...and thank you for your friendship and leadership. Now I hear, grumbling from the orange and white crowd, that they want to have another battle with me in golf. Still upset about the game of allll time and how the gringe stole Xmas. A game of chance for Kevin, Carey, Big E, Robbie, Scotty and other tea sippers from the upper crust. But an easy game "The best Game Every Played" on the Frio for the old 60 year old man. I pray that you will take it easy on the old guy the old rebel that went to Arkansas to get a college education and did the best he could. Wellllllllllll...................the game is a foot............the gauntlet has been laid down shall we call it "Revenge at the Rock" Flat Rock that is. In all seriousness what a delight this trip will be and I will cherish the memories forever and be very careful driving down to the river. Big E I want you on my team......one interloper to another..unless you got your little pinkie up in the air. And what can you say about Kevin? Rah, Rah and go wolfs? I give you the President Bush laugh heh, heeeh, heeh. This should be fun.

Tee Times

Thanks to Captain Leo for getting us tee times at the beautiful Quad C... Con Can Country Club. We have tee times for 8:50 on thursday and friday. So far it is Sir Kels'...... Bobby Lloyd and Unka Big E on the card. Any onelse interested please respond... Iron... Lefty..... Sottie Edward ..... 3 wood off the box Karl.....cp.... lets get it on baby!

Anyone heard from Kerdog? Where's Kerdog?

cp.... remember this 8 iron draw over the fountain to pin by left shoulder for birdie on 18 at your high roller Irvine Country club that cost me 150 bones....(2 installments of 75 over a 12 month grace period) only to lose to me by 2.

Can't wait for the 3 finger riser Hill Country Golf battle

And Unka Big E said...

Big E said... Well, no family gathering is complete without at least one interloper, a perpetual malingerer and ne'er do well; someone who sits in the corner and everyone asks, "who's that guy and who brought him?" No, I ain't a Kelson/Burns/Mueller/Shelby/etc., but I have earned my Frio Stripes - I have been washed clean by the caressing waters of the blessed Frio, and I said one day I would gird my loins, put on a helmet, take a pill (or shot, or whatever), and see if I could hang with the big boys at the REAL DEAL 4TH OF JULY EXTRAVAGANZA! I've heard many a tale, but only come around at other second-rate times of the year. Well, I'm in. I will be flyin' solo, in that Lo and the kids are rendezvous'n with the OUTLAWS, and I had to flip a coin (two-headed one to be sure...) LEAKEY WON!! I'm bringin' my tent, sleepin' bag, GOLF CLUBS, bug spray, GUITAR, and WOODSTOCK repellent. Only one request - Don't put me with the boys, the mutts, or the mudders next door. I'll find a quiet place to pitch my tent. Arrival time mid afternoon July 3. I will get with ya'll about food requirements. If any family members, the health department, attendees of lesser Southwest Conference Schools, or other naysayers protest my appearance in Leakey, well then we're gonna have to rumble. Meet you on the Con-Can Country Club 18, and we'll see who's standin' after that.Yours Always - Unka Big E June 26, 2007 4:34 PM

We made it to Big D...next stop Paradise

Well Folks...the invasion is almost complete. The Cali-4-ni-yeah Kelson Clan has landed at the Kremlin...and are currently refueling with Swimming, ping pong, Margaritas, Tex Mex, tree house zip line playing, trampoline jumping, Chicken foot Domino playing, and trying to stay DRY. What the Heck is going on with the weather? Hell if it makes the Frio Flow mighty...I am "all in" on the greatest float trip yet...not since the Cancun Flood of '82.
Pics above of Ryan (7) and Sean(3)...Kristy and I in Napa last September. Cali is grand!
Grandma-We will also be there Tuesday late afternoon on the 3rd. Adios mi familia!
Carey (Kristy, Ryan, and Sean...no dogs in rehab).

Just a word from Dancer

My name is Dancer Burns. I live on the Frio. I understand there is an Alpha Dog headed this way. While I am just a Border Collie I do have a very close friend, a golden retriever, weighing about 135 and he has appointed himself as my protector. There was a pit bull dog next door who didn't like me and my friend, Noah, got him straightened out in short order. Let's all get along on the 4th. Dancer

Buddy visits the Frio

All, Blakley and Myself are looking forward to a trip to the Frio on the Fourth. We have had Buddy in rehab for the last 8 months and after 2 surgergies on his ACL he will be ready to go. He is the 100 pound alpha male lab and can not wait to hang out with the "ladies." Carey, Kevin,Karl, Mike, you better bring your sticks as I am looking for a hill country golf battle. We got Friday night covered with food with Friday night Fajitas. We might even bring the starcraft for old times sake and set up basecamp. This will be Blakley and Buddy's first trip so as Carey stated we are looking forward to Garner, Frio float trips, Alcapuco cliff divers, Firework estravaganza, frisbie golf tourney, rope swings, baseball, and the cleansing waters of the Frio!! We really are looking forward to it!! We will be down on Tuesday night the 3rd. Rob and Blakley

Happy Father's Day!

This is just my way of remembering the Best Daddy of them all...PaPaw. Remember all of the times he told you to pick out a toy from Toy Palace and you spent the whole day trying to figure out what the best toy would be. I remember all the times he gave me "emergency" money and the instructions to not let the gas tank get below half full. Many, many, many childhood memories. See you on the 4th and you Daddies can make your own memories. Mom

Lady and The Tramps

Hey Tramps, while you are digging in the trash at Woodstock I will be living the life of leisure I've come to know. And once Rocky kicks all of your @sses I will be laying on the porch at Grandmoms and Earls watching the fireworks. Enjoy your Alpo, while I indulge in my free Nestle Morsels.
Love, Lady

Kelson Family 4th of July

I just wanted to send out a note and say that I already have the tanning competition locked up...sorry Sherry and Mom - but you fools are being schooled by me. (I have 8 days in the British Virgin Islands to thank for that) Karl & Ginnie - we should chat about our food day. I can handle the cake for Scottie - we can figure out the rest. Kevin says the River is beautiful!

Kevin and Kyle are down there now and he's says it's running great and Kyle is having a great time swimming! I can't wait for the 4th! Kevin is "working the land" to get everything ready for us (hopefully not breaking any equipment as he's been known to do). Rob & Scott have promised a great FOOD day Friday and I haven't heard too many rumblings about the sleeping arrangements so it appears everything is going well so far. If anyone knows of a better way we could keep in touch and communicate stuff then please let me know, because this does seem a little hard. The only people I think we will be missing is Travis (Mike said he just started a new job so can't take off) and Logan (who has 2 jobs and has to keep his nose to the grindstone). Mike said Precious may not make the trip because she's scared she'll be eaten by Heisman :-)
email us directly at kelsons@sbcglobal.net if I've missed anything, want me to add something or you would like just like to see me shut up :~)
Love you guys!

Your Food Days

And initial thoughts on food, with this many people I think we should put 2 "families" per day, this is your day to be in charge of breakfast, lunch and dinner. I guess we need to try and coordinate this to some degree so we dont eat hamburgers for 3 days straight, too: Weds July 4th - Mike-Charleen-Karla Thurs July 5th - Karl-Ginnie-Erin-Doug (dont forget Birthday Cake for Scott) Friday July 6th - Rob-Blakely-Scott-Erica Saturday July 7th - Kevin-Sherry If anyone is leaving earlier than Saturday we can switch it around

Sleeping Arrangements

Here's the initial thoughts on where everyone could fit: Single Wide - Karl/Ginnie -----2nd Bedroom - Ann Marie Brown Room -Karla Blue Room – Mike & Charleen Little House - Carey Kristy Sean (they traveled the farthest, they get first dibs) Pop Up Tent Next to Little House - Lil 'Kevin- Kyle-Ryan Riverside Tents Rob/Blakley Erin/Doug Scott/Erica Kevin/Sherry

By the way, if Kevin tries to talk this man or anyone else in the family into BUYING A BOAT for the Frio, I will kick your behinds!

Let's get ready for the 4th!

Hello All!
Who's ready for some Frio Time??? We are for sure!!!!!!

I know Karl loves it when I try to take over and be Camp Director so I didn't want to disappoint him this year!! So, I thought I would try this Blog thingamajig so we could all post our comments, suggestions, complaints in one place.

Let start out with when is everyone getting there? Kevin & Kyle will probably go down the week before. I will head down Saturday or Sunday (June 30th or July 1st). The parade and everything is the following weekend - after July 4th.

I think the "everybody has one day" thing for food has been working pretty well, what about y'all? And of course, bring your own drinks (of all kinds) and extra chips, etc.
I don't think sleeping arrangements should be too hard now with the extra trailer. Kevin and I are considering setting up a tent but Woodstock may be the "detemining factor" there.
